What is OpenDXP?
OpenDXP stands for ‘Open Data & Digital Experience Platform’ and is a community-driven open-source project. OpenDXP 2025 was created as a fork of Pimcore Community Edition 11, initiated by the Swiss digital agency DACHCOM.DIGITAL.
Technically, OpenDXP combines key building blocks for modern digital platforms: PIM, DAM, headless CMS and composable commerce. The platform adopts an API-first approach and is based on PHP and Symfony – a flexible foundation for bespoke digital solutions and integrated system landscapes.
Why OpenDXP rather than Pimcore?
With Pimcore 12, the licensing model has changed fundamentally: the previous GPLv3 has been replaced by the Pimcore Open Core Licence (POCL). This means that free use is no longer permitted for companies with an annual turnover of five million euros or more.
OpenDXP offers an open alternative for companies wishing to further develop their existing system landscape without being bound by the new licence terms. As a community-driven fork of Pimcore Community Edition 11, OpenDXP is committed to openness, independence and a flexible long-term platform strategy.

For us, OpenDXP is not a new system, but familiar territory. The same data objects, the same classes, the same Symfony framework underneath – just without the new licensing issues. This means that existing Pimcore projects can be further developed and refined on a familiar technical foundation.
